Thyme Café celebrated its milestone 10 year birthday in 2013, thanks to its reputation as Sheffield’s most vibrant casual-dining experience. We are well-known for creating unique food with big, bold flavours.

Our Story

The Thyme Café concept was the creation of Adrian Cooling and Richard & Victoria Smith. Chefs Adrian and Richard and front of house expert Victoria met at High Peak Catering College in the mid ‘80s. They reunited a decade later for the Smiths’ first venture, ‘Smith’s of Sheffield’ in Crosspool, where Adrian helped the husband and wife team create one of the finest restaurants in the area. The venture went on to win a host of accolades, achieving a level of business rarely seen these days with the restaurant packed out every night for five years.

It was in 2003 that Ady and Smithy decided to embark on another venture, to create a ‘no-nonsense’ eatery that was relaxed and a little rough around the edges. A place that delivered robust, hearty dishes that were big on flavour and direct on taste. And so Thyme Café was born.

The Thyme ethos is all about giving customers value, choice and quality with a strong focus on creating the basics flawlessly.

And so here we are, a decade on, with Thyme still delivering everything we set out to do in a product enjoyed by thousands of customers every year. Thank you to everyone who has dined with us for your support, we look forward to welcoming you back to the café again soon.

SUPPLIERS

Our wine merchants, House of Townend, have been established for over 100 years and are considered one of the premier vintners in the UK.

Together we have created a wine list that offers quality, value and choice and fits in with our ethos of the cafe - great wines at affordable prices that are unique to Townends and cannot be found on supermarket shelves.

At the cafe we have a great passion for craft ale. Thornbridge Brewery is widely regarded as the best craft brewer in the UK and a leading member of the worlds elite brewers due to their domination of the market in keg, cask and bottled beers.

We consult with Thornbridge on choosing our tipple of the month and they brew our very own Thyme Bitter. You can always expect a great pint at the cafe.
