Our wine merchants, House of Townend, have been established for over 100 years and are considered one of the premier vintners in the UK.

Together we have created a wine list that offers quality, value and choice and fits in with our ethos of the cafe - great wines at affordable prices that are unique to Townends and cannot be found on supermarket shelves.

Owen Taylor have been butchers since 1922, family owned business which strives to provide the finest quality produce, locally sourced wherever possible. The vast majority or their beef, pork and lamb comes from farms in the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire counties.

At the cafe we have a great passion for craft ale. Thornbridge Brewery is widely regarded as the best craft brewer in the UK and a leading member of the worlds elite brewers due to their domination of the market in keg, cask and bottled beers.

We consult with Thornbridge on choosing our tipple of the month and they brew our very own Thyme Bitter. You can always expect a great pint at the cafe.

One of the secrets behind the cafe’s success is that most of our produce is hand selected at market.

For the last 5 years, Tim Vincent has spent his (early-rising) days sourcing top quality ingredients from various markets, including New Smithfield Market in Manchester which specialises in fish. Tim worked as Sous Chef at Thyme Restaurant but when the opportunity arose he was excited to put his knowledge of food to a different purpose.

“It’s not a conventional lifestyle my day starts at 1am when I make the 50 minute journey over the Snake Pass to the New Smithfield Market. I browse the market stalls, comparing the quality and price of the fish on offer, place my orders and return at 4:30am to collect everything and make my way back to Sheffield for around 6am. It’s fantastic being able to handpick the finest ingredients and there’s no middle-man to worry about. There’s a real sense of community and camaraderie at the market and the upside of the early start to the day is getting to see some incredible sunrises up in the peaks.”
